Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge was created in 1937 as a refuge and breeding ground for migrating birds and other wildlife. Actually it was rather overwhelming to try and find something unusual or uncommon in the flock. We saw a whopping 55 species on our Bombay Hook Trip with 4 life birds avocet stilts phalarope and bobwhite.

The last occurred in 1993 when Bombay Hook NWR acquired Steamboat landing bringing the total to 15978 acres 6466 km². At low tide they can be seen feeding by the thousands on the salt marsh mudflats along the wildlife drive. The Refuge is open every day of the year from sunrise to sunset.
